The FIA MORA Project: A Societal Success Since 2023
Since 2023, Sopromer, in collaboration with Madagascar’s Ministry of Fisheries, has successfully implemented the FIA MORA project—a pioneering initiative to make local fish accessible at affordable prices for Malagasy communities.
This project has two main objectives:
- Making seafood more accessible.
- Contributing to food security for local populations.
Thanks to FIA MORA, strategically located outlets across Madagascar’s capital enable residents in neighborhoods like Bemasoandro, Tanjombato, Ambodinisotry, Ankazomanga, Ambohitrarahaba, and Ambohipo to buy fresh fish at just 4,000 Ariary per kilo. This affordable pricing democratizes access to fish, a vital source of protein often out of reach for low-income families.
The project has had a direct impact on food security and community welfare, promoting poverty reduction and healthier diets in Madagascar. Fish, rich in protein and essential nutrients, is crucial for many families, and FIA MORA, supported by Sopromer and the Ministry of Fisheries, has improved access to this vital resource. By making quality fresh fish available at affordable prices, FIA MORA meets nutritional needs while creating new economic opportunities for local fisheries and distribution.
Building on this success in 2023, the FIA MORA project was deployed again in 2024.
Following the success of 2023, the FIA MORA project was renewed for 2024 underscoring Sopromer and the Ministry of Fisheries’ commitment to accessible and sustainable food systems. Through this initiative, they aim to build a resilient framework benefiting both local fishers and consumers.
This innovative project continues to earn praise for its sustainable approach and positive social impact. FIA MORA is more than a project—it is a renewed promise for a fairer and healthier future for all.
